The Best STAB I’ve Built (And the Easiest!)
Description
Step-by-step we build the best Hydro stabilizer wing I have made so far! Using a new carbon lamination trick that worked!
Building a high-performance stabilizer (rear wing) doesn't require a CNC machine or a professional composite shop. In this video, I’m breaking down the full build process of my latest stabilizer design, which has proven to be the most stable and efficient "stab" I’ve ever put on the water.
We move away from complex vacuum bagging and instead focus on a Yellow Cedar core, I’ll walk you through the precise hand-shaping process, the structural carbon fiber layup, and a low-tech compression hack that ensures a solid bond every time.
Key Technical Build Details:
Core Material: Vertical grain Yellow Cedar (Planned to 5mm max thickness).
Reinforcement: 3 full layers of 6oz (200gsm) 3K Carbon Fiber on both the top and bottom.
Leading Edge: A dedicated "wrap-around" carbon cap to prevent delamination and handle impacts.
Resin System: High-clarity, slow-cure Marine Grade Epoxy for maximum saturation.
The "Press" Method: Using memory foam to achieve uniform clamping pressure on the curved trailing edge and anhedral tips.

Why Yellow Cedar?
Unlike plywood, solid Yellow Cedar allows you to sand fine, tapered edges without the "stair-stepping" effect of plys. It also provides a much stiffer internal structure.
